WEKFEST Los Angeles: P.2
Moving along to part two of my Wekfest LA coverage… There is just such a large variety of vehicles here, all executed in great detail and care taken by their respective owners. It’s really the spectacle to witness some of the greatest builds that California has to offer all under one roof. This is still just a small example of the tuning scene here, but it’s a great example of USDM show car culture.
Really enjoying these darker red RX7s here at Wekfest… Not a colour you see often on imports. I think it suites this FC RX7 quite well.
A wild Porsche Spyder build. Most of these kit cars that I’ve seen are built to look as original to the Porsche vehicle as possible, but this one went a different route and went full out on modifications. Large HRE 527 wheels are fitted underneath the custom wheel flares.
Very nice blue leather and a dark plaid upholstery that can be found all around the entire vehicle. Pictured here in the frunk is what I’m assuming is the gas tank and also a radiator both wrapped in the leather and plaid to make it look like luggage pieces. I also like how the owner of this vehicle incorporated leather buckles and straps underneath the frunk as well to match the hood buckles. Great details all throughout.
Couldn’t tell you exactly what engine this is, but looks to be a turbocharged boxster engine. My guess would be something native to a Porsche Boxster. The underside of the clamshell also covered with blue leather. Another great detail is the cage chassis frame that extends into the interior.
The interior was of course also tastefully done in the same materials… Overall an amazing build.
Rocket Bunny V3 kitted FRS on Work Meisters and 326Power BBK. Interior had blue status bucket seats and a rear roll bar.
A second generation Toyota Corolla with fender flares. This is the first time I’ve ever seen one in person and this one is in incredible shape.
Evo X with Ings+1 bumper and skirt sides. Voltex swan nick spoiler and Volk Racing CE28n wheels.
Clean MK4 Supra on TE37SLs.
Gold emblems are of an era, but it works well on the green paint of this Supra.
Carbon Kevlar bucket seats with custom upholstery. Also notice the yellow seat belts that match all of the other yellow accents found on the car.
WRX STi with carbon doors and hood. Silver Advan RG-D2’s look great here. I thought I had taken a few pictures of the blue R33 on the left of the STi, but not seeing them when I look through the photos now… bummer, since it was very nice…
A Toyota Megacruiser. I didn’t even know this thing existed until I saw it here at Wekfest. It must have been one of those military only issued vehicles. I quite enjoyed seeing this.
This thing is seriously massive.
There is a cavity right before the rear wheels to store your equipment, tools, or bags of money, as seen here.
Subaru WRX STi with a great looking livery.
Clean and simple GR86 wearing ADRO side skirts and rear swan neck wing.
Thought this was an interesting design on the end plate of this ADRO wing.
Audi B8.5 A4 aired out on Rotiform LTN wheels.
Beside was another aired out Audi B8.5 A4 with an RS4 front bumper.
A military themed(?) Datsun 240Z on period correct RS Watanabe R-Type wheels.
Slammed Evo 9. Bronze on black will always be a classic and winning combo.
Widebody NSX. I saw this one before in LA as well at the Formula Drift car show last year as well.
Voltex Honda S2000 looks incredible… Great stance provided by OG TE37s. A beautifully built S2000…
Another cool livery, this time found on a Nissan GTR with a GT3 body conversion.
Spare 1L bottle of Motul 300V engine oil doubles as a trunk prop.
Another Datsun 240Z also on RS Watanabe R-Type wheels.
Varis kitted Supra on Work Zeast ST1 wheels. Interior was fitted with Recaro SPJ Tomcats with matching rear bench.
Gold Datsun 240Z on Work Equip 03s.
Neatly tucked engine bay.
J’s Racing S2000.
Levin Corolla with Work Meister CR01 wheels.
Sayber Design widebody Toyota 86
Turbocharged K swapped as well…
BMW E31 8 series with a Pandem widebody kit.
A look into the interior of the 8 series. Pretty rare to see these - I don’t think I’ve ever seen any in Canada, only ever in the US…
The Pandem widebody kit continues on with this Lexus RCF. This kit on the RCF however looked really good with it being molded onto the body rather than being bolted on. Work Meister T5R wheels with a large lip size spec.
997 Porsche 911 with cup aero. I remember seeing this car before at Long Beach but on different wheels. The owner switched over some Apex VS-5RS for Wekfest.
Classic Mercedes slammed on BBS RS wheels.
Beautiful BMW E36 M3 on BBS wheels as well.
LB-Works Audi R8.
Clean Acura Legend on air bags with Lowenhart wheels.
GR86 with TRD aero, craft square mirrors and CE28 SLs.
I thought this A90 Supra had a great looking side profile. Great colour theme throughout.
I quite liked the paint on this Miata as well as the blue Advan TC4s. Not a common colourway but it works well, in my opinion.
Bagged Lexus GS-F on Work VS-XXs.
Lamborghini Huracan with lots going on. Not familiar with exotics at all so I have no idea what I’m looking at here, but lots of forged carbon pieces and centerlock wheels with possible beadlocks. I’m not sure, but pretty crazy overall. I think this may be the same wrap that Alex might have on his GTR as well.
Dodge Challenger Scat Pack widebody with a centerlock conversion.
ASM catalogue S2000 CR and Joey Lee.
It’s pretty rare to see a full ASM built S2000, not to mention this one being on a rare CR model as well…
This EG Civic was exciting to see. I really liked the paint colour on this hatch matched with silver Mugen NR10R wheels. Just simple and very clean all around. A quick glance from the exterior I also spot a Spoon front lip, side mirrors and rear wing. JDM thin side mouldings also round off the exterior very nicely.
Haven’t seen this widebody kit on an S2000 before, and now that I see the photo, I probably could have figured out what it was if I had taken a look at the “mod list” on the stand which blocks a good portion of the car. Oops.
This Toyota Land Cruiser was super clean. It was also exciting seeing this build.
37” Kumho tires wrapped on TE37XTs which fit great. The rear window flip up is also super cool, although a tiny detail.
Dual swing out rear bumper holding a full sized and matching spare, pro eagle jack and rotopax canisters. The trunk set up was also fitted with Dobinson sliding drawers and tons of additional equipment. Overall, a beautifully kept truck that is well-equipped for the trails. Everything looks brand new and extremely well-taken care of and it’s a treat to see something like this in pristine condition.
Some sort of V8 engine swap with ITBs. Not sure what motor, but looks domestic to me.
Mazda RX7 with every carbon fibre body panel possible.
NeXT Miracle X brace takes up almost the entire rear view in the RX7.
GR Corolla tucking a set of TE37SLs.
This Jeep Gladiator looks like it’d be a ton of fun.
Super cool looking too.
Greddy Pandem widebody GR86.
Varis widebody Mitsubishi Evo X.
Matching Streethunter Design widebody GR86s.
Widebody FRS with an aggressive set of Work VS-XXs.
Crazy Ford Bronco with carbon front and rear fenders.
Liberty Walk kitted Nissan S13.
Blobeye STi with an engine swap - I don’t recall what motor, but perhaps a 2JZ? Also stanced on now discontinued Work VS-KF wheels…
Voltex S2000.
Simple and clean NA1 Acura NSX with Advan RZII wheels and Stoptech brakes.
A couple of interesting 1st gen Honda CRVs. There are some interesting bits on this car that I’ve never seen before, so I’m not sure if they are possibly a factory JDM issue items or aftermarket pieces. A clear bug deflector on the hood, front bumper extension trim and chrome foglight grille all look like they could have been OEM but just not sure. The window visors are also the largest ones I’ve ever seen on any car, lol.
A spare-less rear hatch. Looks odd. The rear roof spoiler is a nice piece, however. The wheels have Mugen stickers on them, but I haven’t come across these before, so I’m unaware of which model.
This one following a more popular JDM theme.
Matching TE37 spare on the rear door.
Recaro SR3 confetti seats are not a far off match from the OEM interior pattern.
Something you don’t see often anymore - a Suzuki Tracker 2 door convertible equipped with hydraulics.
The interior was left relatively stock. Passenger door is missing the window crank, so I wonder if the owner leaves the windows down, lol.
Matching spare mounted on the rear. You can see the hydraulic system shown off in the back of the Tracker.
First manual A90 Supra that I’ve seen - not that it looks any different visually over an automatic transmission A90…
Stanced BRZ on a nice set of fully chrome Work Meisters.
Minty Honda Del Sol with a set of Mugen MF10s.
Toyota MR2 with a pair of TE37s in the rear and Blitz 03s in the front.
Tesla Model 3 lowered on BBS LMs.
Varis widebody STi. Peep the flip flop trunk mod.
Slammed Camry.
96 spec EK Civic with a K-swap.
Stripped interior.
Clean DA Integra. Interesting wheels - can’t say I know what model they are.
Overland built Tundra. Rear camping set-up looking cozy.
Rocket Bunny Corolla Levin.
Widebody Prius with moulded body kit panels. CCW Classic wheels and some Ganador styled mirrors?
Honda Orthia which is essential a 96-00 Civic wagon. This one had the EK4 Civic front end conversion.
Camry with SSR Formula Aero Spoke wheels. Cool wheel design.
Mercedes W202 C Class on AMG monoblock wheels. Super clean.
Very nice engine bay. I really liked the finish on the valve cover. Looking super clean with the coil-on plug conversion.
Phoenix Yellow EM1 Civic with a rare Mugen wing and MF10s.
Blacked out themed engine bay. Also very clean.
Another clean EM1 in the lineup with a Mode Parfume front bumper.
The entire lineup is so minty.
VW Beetle with BBS RS wheels.
Varis kitted Subaru STi with ZE40s.
Overland built Lexus GX470 on TE37XTs.
Interesting call to ditch the factory seats for these Sparco R333s.
Pretty rare to a TSX wagon, let alone this one is fully Mugen equipped.
F80 BMW M3 on Advan GTs. Laptorr front and side splitters, Voltex Type 1S rear wing and Varis carbon hood.
What style is this called? Anime or comic book, perhaps?
Chrome wrapped E90 BMW M3…
Spoon EK Civic. I really dig the CX theme with the black mouldings and door handles. Typically, I would prefer colour matched body trims, but the black and white theme work extremely well here…
Spoon buckets, steering wheel, shift knob, and even the uber rare cluster which may or may not have come from Calgary…
Nissan Skyline dubbed the Hakosuka sitting right with 10th anniversary model TE37Vs.
And that concludes my coverage from Wekfest LA 2023. There was a great variety of cars, all executed quite well making it overwhelming to try and catch all of the details. Since we were only in LA for a short period of time, there were a few other things we wanted to check out before heading home so I didn’t get to spend as much time there as I would have liked, but it still was a good amount of time to get a great overview of the entire show.
There are definitely apparent trends and themes in the car culture in California, especially in the car-show crowd. The quantity of quality builds is also staggering in comparison to what we’re seeing at home. While it’s not too far off, our US neighbours definitely go much “harder”.
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for tuning in. Until next time.
