WEKFEST Los Angeles: P.1

Wekfest has been one of those shows that I’ve always wanted to attend, but just never made the chance to go - that is until this October where I made the trip out to LA for the finale of their 2023 tour. For those who don’t know, Wekfest is one of the best automotive events that tours throughout the US, bringing out some of the top tuners and builds from around the country and some even from across the border. The variety in America is something that Canada just hasn’t quite matched yet. That isn’t to say that we lack quality builds here in Canada, it’s just that it’s more abundant in America. There are many factors that contribute to the disparity but I think that’s just simply due to the tuning and motorsport support present in America that we lack back home.

Vivi and I ended up getting early access passes which grants us two hours prior to general admission. I was hoping to be able to use this time to capture as many photos as I could without the crowds. While it was still busy, it was helpful to have the extra space. Most of the people who purchase the early access passes seemed to be photographers as well so a majority of the people there were cognizant of each other and would stay out of frame if they saw anyone holding up their camera.

I’m sure many of you will recognize some of the vehicles throughout this post as many of them have made rounds across social media. There was someone taking photos on a Nintendo DS, and I am really curious to see some of their pictures…

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my event coverage and recap from Wekfest LA 2023.

The official vehicle of Wekfest LA from Art of Attack x RS Future GT3 Cup EVO. Incredible looking car and so well executed.

BBS E07 centre lock wheels and large aero on the rear.

I’ve been following this on Instagram through the Art of Attack page, so it’s pretty cool to get to see this car in person after seeing it evolve through the internet.

This EK on display at the Group B Unlimited booth was my favourite car of the festival… If you know me, you’ll know right away as to why that is…

The Mode Parfume fenders and bumper extensions on this EK were a very nice addition.

Sitting on Group B NC-01 wheels and a Mode Parfume rear spoiler to match the front fenders.

ITBs peeking through the vented First Moulding carbon fibre hood…

I did a round through the event and came back to find the hood opened. Engine bay looking just as minty as the rest of the car.

Battlecraft and Exceed GR86 with ZE40s.

Stickydiljoe and StudyTuned’s Exceed GR86 on TE37 Sagas.

Lexus LS on OG TE37s from Karuma.

Clean E92 M3 on BBS RIA.

Robot Craftsman widebody Tesla Model 3 with the Autofashion booth on Work Meisters S1s. Modified Teslas are slowly gaining popularity as more companies are developing parts for them. As we trend and prepare to enter into the new era of electrification, this serves as an indicator that people will forever be modifying cars…

This was the interior of the white Model 3 that was also in the Autofashion booth. The photo I got of the exterior turned out blurry, but I did get a snap looking in onto the dash. The Nardi two spoke steering wheel initially caught my eye. Interesting choice which may have some influence from the Tesla steering yoke. I imagine that steering yoke being quite difficult to use when making full turns… The animation on the screen was cool which showed the Tesla driving on a highway.

Widebody Mercedes AMG GT. As if an AMG GT isn’t already crazy enough to begin with, this one goes a few steps crazier. This looked so good.

Extremely clean blacked out EG Civic from the Darkside Racing team. Equipped with a Sergeant Racing front bumper and TE37s.

K swapped. At first glance I noticed the nitrous injection, but what I learned later on a Stickydiljoe IG post was that this car also supercharged with a C38R Rotrex unit hidden underneath the intake manifold. I completely missed this huge detail when I was at the show, but there are so many details in this build that it’s easy to overlook some of the items.

Flocked interior, Sparco seats, steering wheel and Racepac digital dash round out the interior well.

Centre exit exhaust coming out through the middle of the rear bumper.

Phoenix Yellow ITR also from Darkside Racing. This one wearing Mugen MF10 wheels and a Mugen gen 2 rear spoiler.

Clean engine bay. This one has an interesting intake system utilizing a Mugen airbox, however you can see a velocity stack. I didn’t take a close enough look when I was at the show so I’m unsure of what is entirely is going on with this engine setup, but possibly another stealthy supercharger setup?

VSM (vogue silver metallic) EK on a matching silver set of Work RSZ-R.

Another flawless engine bay in this lineup. Centre piece of this engine bay is the carbon fibre manifold intake which looks like a Pracworks piece.

NHBP ITR on Mugen M7s and also with a Mugen gen 2 wing. Peeking through into the interior you can find a pair of reclining Mugen MS-Z seats.

A new G82 BMW on matte blue gunmetal TE37 Saga S-Plus wheels. I’m digging the blue on blue…

The dedication required to make sure the wheels and lips are as minty as possible for the show… I think this is an Acura EL converted to a Honda Domani, which makes it more of a rarity being stateside as the Acura EL never made it to the masses in America.

Varis GTR.

Nice colour combo on this purple Exige with bronze TE37s.

Grey themed FK8.

You can probably tell a difference between the focal length between this photo and the one above, since at this point I changed out my camera lens. Still being new to photography, I’ve been testing out my different lenses for different scenarios and I think I’ve come to like how this view looks for car shows where cars are parked quite closely to each other…

F80 on Advan GTs looking sharp with a 3D Design carbon front bumper and red edirb buckets matching the red brembo brakes.

Voltex Type 1S rear spoiler and rear rollcage.

I’m guessing the owner of this FK8 got tired of people asking for his wheel and tire specs, so he put them right on the fender…

Top Secret Super-G widebody kitted Supra also in gold paint to resemble the actual Top Secret car.

I’d say it’s a pretty iconic body kit, and it was my first time seeing on in person. I remember first seeing it on the cover of Super Street and being pretty stoked about it. I might still have that issue around somewhere…

E92 M3 with Varis hood, GT4 front lip and BBS RIA wheels.

Rocket Bunny FRS sitting on 16” wheels with fat tires. I forget the tire sizing now, but I did go check.

A90 Supra.

Varis Arising II front lip and side skirts on this FK8. Not sure of what front fenders those are, however.

Clean RE-Amemiya kitted FC RX7.

Lotus Evora on Work CR Kai wheels.

Varis widebody STi to combo break the lineup of red cars.

Kaido racer style Toyota Camry.

R33 Skyline with Work VS-XX wheels in the front and Blitz 03 wheels in the rear.

Immaculate Porsche 911. Recaro pole position driver’s seat and with a colour matched rear roll bar.

Couldn’t tell you much about this Porsche 935… great livery though and overall looks wild.

Two turbochargers peeking out from underneath the rear end… Amazing car.

Mercedes S Class that looks to be on a set of custom re-barreled AMG monoblocks. Looks great slammed and blacked-out.

Mint.

Clean EG Civic slammed on Spoon SW388 wheels.

Underneath the hood of this EG… Huge turbocharger on the K-swap nestled within the shaved and tucked engine bay. Besides the hood exhaust exit and the massive front intercooler, it looks tame and unassuming from the exterior.

JDM fan boys would understand this flex… the rear section of the interior comes from a JDM EG6 SiR which features a trunk box, upgraded Gathers speaker system, storage pockets, and rear bench seats. This was and is still a big deal to have as an EG Civic owner. This was a classic case of Japan keeping all of the cool shit to themselves while the North American models got jipped.

Varis Arising I Subaru STi with BBS RS wheels with triple stepped lips.

Fujiwara Tofu Cafe’s tofu delivery AE86 (I don’t think they actually deliver tofu).

GC Subaru with a 22B body conversion rolling on Desmond Regamasters.

Voltex kitted Evo 8. This one looks like it sees some track duty...

Another Voltex kitted Evo 8 with huge canards up front…

AP2 S2000 with a Spoon front bumper, Volk Racing CE28’s, EVS mirrors, Voltex rear wing, Mugen hardtop and Mugen SS hood…

Lexus SC430 on Wed Kranze. This car had an impressive paintjob including airbrushed artwork seen throughout the entire car.

A better look of some of the artwork on the SC430’s hard-top roof which is seen stored in the trunk of the Lexus…

Interior was also done up VIP style and even had a katana stored behind the seats… If you look closely, the interior trim on the center console lids feature custom artwork as well.

Land Rover Discovery on Black Rhino Arsenal wheels with a loaded roof rack.

Track EK Civic with the Gridlife booth.

Great colour on this GTR with a Varis kit and Vossen EVO 4R wheels.

Clean S14 Silvia on a nice set of staggered chrome Work Meister S1’s.

FK8 Civic with the Varis kit and Racebred Component front splitter. Interesting to see Work VS-XX wheels on an FK8, as they are more commonly seen with TEs or CEs. The wrap colour choice is nice too…

Work Emotion T7R for this S14 Silvia with Origin Lab aero.

Lots going on here on this Civic coupe…

Spoon catalog EK9.

Simple and clean BRZ on some Gram Lights.

Great RX7 on Blitz 03 wheels. This colour looked great and is very unique. I don’t think I can say I’ve seen a car this colour or shade of mauve-purple before… This RX7 pulled it off great.

997 Porsche on Work Meisters S1s…

Very clean MK4 Supra with Work Emotion CRs.

Another RX7 with great paint and colour choice. Veilside front bumper and RE-Amemiya hood found on the front end. BBS E88s are the wheel of choice here.

Another angle since I enjoyed this car.

RCF on air at the D2 Racing booth.

Rocket Bunny Datsun 240Z on Work Equip 03s…

K-Swapped EG.

Candy red paintjob on this MK4 Supra sitting on a set of Almite Bronze OG TE37s…

Sick Mercedes S Class aired out on BBS Super RS wheels…

VIP Lexus LS, also nicely aired out…

Clean EM1 Civic with Spoon calipers and Spoon SW388s…

Nissan Pao in perfect condition and it was my first time seeing one.

A resto-mod Honda N600 nicknamed Daisy. Vivi and I chatted with the owner of this vehicle who shared some of the history behind their build which has seen a handful of upgrades to bring it to this current state. There was also a ton of custom work including metal fenders and even a rollcage inside to make it safer for today’s roads. Great little car with tons of neat details.

Evo X on TE37SLs and Voltex front lip and Varis side skirts.

Widebody Honda Accord on air. The make and model of these wheels eludes me right now…

FK8 with Mugen side skirts, rear lip, rear spoiler, and MF10’s. The front end was J’s Racing from the front lip and hood. I thought I got a photo of the front end but I guess I didn’t… I’m not sure what rear fender extension that is on the rear door but it looks good and better than the Varis one that is most popular.

Nardo Gray 370Z with Ings+1 aero which includes the bumpers, side skirts, fenders and hood. Rounded off with Craft square side mirrors, a Voltex wing and Work Meister S1 3P.

Fully kitted Varis widebody FRS with Volk Racing 21C. I enjoyed this colour combination here.

Simple and clean IS350 on staggered Work Meister S1 3P.

Mugen FK8. A popular route amongst many FK8 owners, but I can’t deny that it is a good look…

Varis Arising II aero package on this 370Z with Nismo LMGT2 wheels. This is a great look.

Headed over to the Toyo Tires booth, first lined up was this G80 BMW tucking Work VS-XXs in the rear.

Minty MK4 Supra with CCW Classics.

GR86 with a Streethunter widebody kit.

Flared AE86 on white TE37V wheels. Powered by a 4A-GE mounted within a shaved and tucked engine bay.

Honda EK Civic. K-swapped with chrome CE28s, J-Blood front bumper, J’s Racing front fenders, and rear spoiler. Great stance too.

Ending off the Toyo Tires booth is this wild Honda S2000 with a M&M Honda widebody. A turbocharger is found underneath the J’s Racing hood. Swan neck Voltex wing, spiked lug nuts, Recaro RMS bucket seats, carbon hardtop… this S2000 has everything and more…

As I had anticipated, Wekfest LA was going to be filled with heavy hitters and tons of quality builds. There is a ton of diversity in terms of modification styles - some being wild and out of the box, while others that prefer the simple and classic styling. Regardless of individual tastes, you can see the pride and care put into these cars. The personalities and characteristics of owners are always reflected through their builds and that is what I find most interesting at car shows. Cars can sometimes really tell you a lot about the owner.

Check out part two as I capture the other side of the event area. Thanks for tuning in to part one of my Wekfest LA coverage.
