REV’d Performance Dyno Day
The crew over at Rev’d Performance invited Speedfactor to attend and set up a booth at their annual dyno day and show and shine this year. Aaron and his team at Rev’d Performance have been running their event for four years now, which has been seeing growth each passing year.
I had never heard of Rev’d Performance before they reached out this year but Aaron had shared his vision of connecting all of the tuner shops in Calgary so that we could all work together, which was a sentiment we also shared. As most shops will eventually become specialized to some degree, Aaron wanted to create a network within the local shops so that we could all work together to ultimately provided the best customer service for our local community.
Here I learned that Aaron and his team do incredible engine work for their customers, building high horsepower and fast cars which I only caught a glimpse of in this post. Thank you to the team at Rev’d Performance for having us and giving us the opportunity to participate in your dyno day.
I was fortunate enough to have a great team of volunteers help me out that day to set up and hang out. While I choose to not bring much to set up or display, it’s always great to have helping hands and company to help enjoy the day with.
Kaden at Midnight Auto Garage posted up next to us with an assortment of goodies that he brought out to showcase and display. Midnight Auto Garage is also another retailer local to Calgary that carries and supplies aftermarket parts.
Clean Mazda RX8 on Enkei RPF01s. I’ve always really liked this body style.
I’m not well-versed in rotary engines, so I couldn’t comment much about what’s going on here, but the original rotary powerplant has been turbocharged with what looks like possibly methanol injection kit. Although this was not technically a 4 cylinder, this competed and won highest HP for the 4 cylinder category.
Mint Pontiac Firebird WS6. Another vehicle that I couldn’t tell you much about…
RHD Lotus Exige - a great looking car, in my opinion. While I’ve never driven one, it looks like it’d be pure fun.
Clean Toyota Aristo.
Danny’s 997. Danny was able to come out and represent Speedfactor with me that day.
Alex and Danisha also came out in the GTR to help out and spend the morning with us.
Nick’s K20 swapped DB8. Thanks to Steven for piloting the Integra for the day.
Brought out the Civic for the event. We couldn’t fit the canopy in the Civic so Viv ended up taking the 4Runner to haul our event booth materials, which I parked on the grass behind the cars…
A few cars from Oprah Built.
A 3UZ engine is found under the hood of this FRS. Pretty cool to see as this was the first 3UZ swapped FRS that I’ve ever seen, or heard of for that matter. It’s interesting to see all the different powerplants that people fit into these cars. From Toyota’s 2JZs, 3UZ, GM’s LSX, and even Honda K swaps, this platform definitely seems to be the Frankenstein’s of cars in that regard…
Interesting exhaust set-up.
Fast and Furious inspired Toyota Aristo.
What are your pronouns though?
Clean MR2, also from Oprah Built.
I initially thought this was funny play on the whole idea that cars don’t actually get you girls, but instead attract the dudes, hence the boxers instead of panties. I later found out that this MR2 was lady driven which actually makes more sense. Peep the childseat in the passenger seat too.
A rare spotting is this Mitsubishi 3000GT. I could probably count on one hand the number of 3000GTs that I’ve ever seen in my lifetime - The Dodge Stealth counterpart seemed to be more popular and I do remember seeing those around more often back then, but even those are now becoming a rare sighting.
Twin turbo setup under here.
Gold Gram Lights 57CRs and original factory red paint.
II was surprised to see how much tech was actually in this car given it’s age. Auto climate controls, steering wheel audio controls, full power leather seats - while it’s all standard features by today’s standards, for a 1997, this came quite loaded. On top of the technology found in the interior, these cars also came with all-wheel steering, adaptive suspension, and on some models, active aero on the rear spoiler. I did find the black dash a bit off and looking out of place as it meets the door cards, but the owner assured me that it’s all original.
A Datsun 1200 Coupe showed up for the show n shine.
I thought this ITB setup was pretty unique especially with the one intake runner at the end closer to the firewall being impeded by a reservoir. I’m not sure if that’s factory or if the ITBs are an upgrade, but that must affect the air intake quite a bit. I would think that a reservoir relocation would be a better solution, but not sure if that’s a possibility.
Before the madness. The dyno sign up tent. Drinks and BBQ were kindly provided all day by Rev’d Performance.
A Liberty Walk R35 GTR. Pretty wild to see.
Pictured here is a Rocket Bunny flared BRZ and an absolute dumptruck in denim.
One of my favourite looking vehicles at the show was this murdered out S14. This had a crowd around it as well being parked right next to the dyno booth made it difficult to find an opportunity to capture a good photo of it. I wish I got a better angle.
I’m sure many people with a project car could find this relatable. Lol.
Looking great from the rear too. Well done.
Aaron of Rev’d Performance’s R32 GTR loaded up as show on their JDM Rescue tow truck.
This old truck just hanging out on-top of a Sea-Can…
AC Shelby Cobra or Factory Five MK4, I honestly can’t tell. Chances are that this is most likely a Factory Five MK4, but I don’t want to offend the owner in the case that this is a legitimate AC Shelby Cobra… Production numbers are crazy low and being a car from the 1960s… I just don’t want to assume, but regardless - absolutely beautiful machine.
The paint was immaculate.
The engine bay.
These wheels look like a pain to take off and put on. Notice the tightening mechanism which has to be hammered with a mallet to loosen. Also notice the safety wire and cotter pin that prevents the lock from backing out…
A shot of the interior. Just the necessities.
Loaded up on the dyno… Can’t say what kind of numbers it put up as I did not see.
Early in the morning, there were a few cars already lining up waiting for their turn on the dyno.
A peek into Rev’d Performance’s garage and their projects that they had on display.
One of Aaron’s prized gems is this Nissan S13 with a Ford Barra engine swap and with a sizeable turbocharger mounted up… If I remember correctly, Aaron has goals of over 1000HP with this setup…
A large turbocharger on SR20 powering this Nissan S14.
A clean R33 GTR.
Nissan Skyline ER34 GT-T. I am guessing that this is lady driven based on the front license plate…
Rocket Bunny S13. I really enjoyed this one.
A shot of the rear.
The most unique build at the show was this Ford Mustang truck… I’m not sure what the truck started life as but given the profile of the cabin and doors, maybe something like a Ford F100 series from the 60s-70s era? There obviously has been a ton of body work done required in order to get the mash-up of parts to fit and line up. This is definitely a statement piece, and while it may not be to everyone’s taste, the amount of dedication, skill, and know-how to complete something like this and make it look like a complete truck is something to marvel at…
Peep the spoiler from the Mustang that was kept on the truck bed. The profile was to long to fit across before hitting the ends of the truck bed, so extension blocks had to be welded on to create enough height to get the spoiler on. I thought this made for a funny look, but as outrageous as this truck is, why not.
The interior from the Mustang was also fitted into the cabin of the truck. An interesting contrast of a somewhat modern dashboard against the bare steel doors.
Dubbed the GT100.
Another vehicle spotted on-top of another Sea-Can…
S15 with Garage Mak rear over fenders.
Very clean Pontiac Fiero GT…
That had a bottle under the frunk…
And a V8 swap of some sort in the trunk…
The interior design showing it’s vintage, however was kept in great shape. The switches on the center console look like light switches and the ones on the dashboard from a Casio calculator - I love it though. The styling is so unique and has great character. So rectangular.
Period correct targa top MK4 Supra with TRD front lip and a TRD style carbon fibre hood, painted to show off the carbon.
S13 lined up for a dyno pull. Interesting chameleon wrap.
Chassis mounted rear wing found on the rear end of the S13.
Super clean MK4 Supra on Work Meister S1 3P. Very nice.
Nissan Stagea also waiting for its turn on the dyno.
Vortex Supercharged 350Z. Interesting bumper mounting…
Bug eye STi with flares sitting on bronze Gram Light 57DRs. Bronze on blue will always be a winning combo.
This exterior of this Chevy Silverado was just haggard…
But after seeing underneath the hood - that was probably the intention. Pretty sleeper minus the fender exhaust exit. Just a massive turbocharger providing all the boost to this truck.
We found the person who’s been stealing catalytic converters (joking, I hope). Also Ubers on weekday nights.
The paint on this S14 was pretty much perfect and the bronze Work Emotion CR Kais wrap it all up together nicely.
OEM+ will always be timeless, regardless of the chassis. The entire car is put together so well - all of the exterior trims were in great condition, body gaps and panels were all lined up perfectly, and the stance was perfect. Probably my favourite car of the show.
Simple and clean Nissan Skyline GTST.
Candy red R32 GTR wearing aggressive front canards, side skirt diffusers and rear diffuser.
Matte Green wrapped R35 GTR. This one won the highest HP in the 6 cylinder category.
Interior of a pretty unique Volvo 200 series wagon. I wish I got a photo of the entire car but it was parked near the dyno booth when I saw it and it was pretty crowded…
Oh.
Acura NA1 NSX on 57DRs.
Optional NAVPOD display installed in the center stack. I didn’t get a close up picture, but this also had an S2000 cluster swap.
Turbocharged set-up which looks to be custom with a top mounted intercooler. Has a Compact Tuning Lab, so many one of the local OGs can chime in and provide more insight here.
MK4 Supra that showed up later in the afternoon for the show n shine.
Very aggressive chassis mounted rear wing.
Slammed Chevy Cheyenne Super 4x4 in a beautiful green and wood scheme.
Houndstooth fabric lined on the bench seating and wood trim lined interior. One thing I really like about trucks from this era is the exposed painted steel found in the cabin.
Chevy big block with a 2 speed powerglide transmission or something rather… I don’t know what I’m looking at here, I made that first part up.
CSX homie.
First Gear Auto’s FD2R. They are actually neighbours to Rev’d Performance, which I learned that day.
First Gear Auto’s FL5 CTR.
Nissan Skyline R33 GTST.
JDM Honda Odyssey Absolute… I think these are great looking vans. JDM sized meaning it’s quite compact, but it still having third row seating. These also were equipped with K24 engines from Honda.
I got a quick peek into the showroom at Rev’d Performance where they had many engines on display - all of which are projects for customers or for their own shop vehicles.
This dude chillin in the corner who was born from a mosh-posh of left over engine parts.
We ended up needing to leave a bit early due to prior commitments, otherwise I would have liked to stay a bit longer to hang out. The event was an enjoyable one being of a slightly slower pace at the booth due to majority of the attendees mainly crowded around the dyno.
This made it easy for me to walk around, snap some pictures and chat with people. Aaron mentioned that the turn-out this year was much larger than the previous years - which was very exciting for him and his crew. He’s hoping for an even larger event for next year so if you missed out this time keep Rev’d Performance's event in mind for 2024!
