March wheeling
We’ve been itching to go wheeling this season but the weather hasn’t been too enticing, that is until we received a 20cm+ week long snow dump. Since we don’t get out too often, admittedly we are picky on when we go so that we can maximize the fun in ideal conditions.
We met up in Cochrane in the morning and made our way out to Waiparous.
A shot of our crew for the day lined up at the entrance and staging area where we all aired down for the trails.
Shaun’s 4th Gen 4Runner.
Justin’s 4th Gen 4Runner.
Oscar’s Lexus GX470
Nick’s 1st Gen Tacoma.
Max’s 3rd Gen Tacoma.
A rear angle of Shaun’s truck.
Shane’s beast of a Tacoma with a plethora of upgrades and modifications, with portals being one of the more notable changes.
Jackie’s 3rd Gen 4Runner.
My 4th Gen 4Runner. I guess we all really like Toyotas…
As we began our trek, Viv and I started out following behind Jackie. We typically will wait on certain obstacles and wait for the car ahead to make it past for safety reasons. Since we just got a large dump of snow, we make sure to give enough room going downhill to the car ahead so that we aren’t accidentally sliding into each other.
The crew following behind me waiting for their turns going down the hill.
A random Toyota homie we crossed paths with also out on the trail.
Hardparked while we wait for the rest to come down the hill. The second half got stuck behind as they had to give way to other trucks going up.
Jackie found a rut, got a bit stuck here and had to get pulled out by Nick.
Nick graciously lead the pack for the majority of the day.
We ended up stopping for a while as the group behind got stuck again behind another group. It was a busy day on the trails. The conditions were amazing out, so that was to be expected.
Since we were stopped, I took the opportunity to swap driving with Viv. She was eager to give it a try and gave me the opportunity to be passenger princess and to get more photos.
Super stoked with the double peace signs.
Back on route.
This JDM Nissan Safari was another random encounter on the trail. Thought it looked awesome.
Brandon getting a photo, hanging out the passenger side of his best friend’s ride.
Another random encounter at a river crossing was this rad Jeep. This thing was being wheeled quite hard and looked like a ton of fun. The driver came out afterwards wearing shorts. lol.
Swapped with Oscar at this point and was following him for a bit.
Got a photo of Oscar hitting the throttle a bit to much and ended up digging a little hole for himself. He ended up getting stuck and got towed out with ease by Jackie - no biggie.
We made it to the frozen waterfalls which marked the halfway point where we stopped for a quick break and to eat lunch. Shane getting some snaps of his Tacoma.
I also wanted to get a shot from a similar angle as Shane.
A snap of the portal conversion.
Really enjoy the way that Shaun’s truck looks blacked out. Aggressive with a great stance.
Oscar waiting for someone to come by and ask about his truck.
A shot of the entire entourage sans the orange Taco. We’re lucky to have such a beautiful backyard.
Max got caught on a rock right under the front differential and was pretty stuck. Since we were behind Max we tried to tug him backwards but had no luck. Shaun then positioned his truck to try and winch Max off the side which also was unsuccessful.
After reassessing the situation, the next option we wanted to try was to pull forward now that the rock was no longer holding up the front differential.
After a bit of wiggling, Max was freed with being high-centred, but was still sunk.
Shaun repositioned to again winch Max. After a short struggle we were back on the trail.
We passed this huge convoy of 20+ cars all wheeling together.
We ended up following Justin out.
Back at the staging area where we stopped to air back up.
Frozen TE37s…
Literally iced over.
Had a fun time wheeling with the crew and making some new friends. Getting out into nature is always a great way to unwind and feel rejuvenated which was really needed. While this was much fun, I hope to start covering some car content soon…
If you made it this far, thank you as always for reading and I hope you enjoyed the photos from our short get-away. Stay safe and have fun wheeling out there!
