Matsuri Festival of Cars: P.2

After the blue Gatorade restored some HP, I continue on to slave on to provide free content for the culture… Read on as part two covers the North lot and back into the last row of the South lot…

The Kazoku and Tuner Decals team booths set up. The awards were pretty unique as they were skate decks. I thought the awards turned out great and definitely something winners would be proud to display. I should have gotten a photo of the awards, but the heat stroke must have been affecting my ability to think clearly.

The cars of Kazoku.

Jeff’s super clean S15 Spec R with a good fitting set of TE37 Saga S-Plus.

Josh’s 9th gen Civic looking very clean as always.

Josh recently installed a Kraftwerks supercharger into his Civic as well. Engine bay is also quite dressed up in Chasing J’s goodies.

Gem’s Subaru WRX on pink 57CRs.

S2000 looks pretty cool in pink…

I don’t know how to describe it, but this FRS looks like a ghost. That’s not a bad thing, it’s just the first thing that came to my head.

Widebody FRSs.

The Pandem V3 kit is pretty crazy looking.

A definite eye-catcher.

First Gear Project’s legit FD2 Type R with Mugen lip and Mugen grille.

Mugen rear lip and Voltex Type 1S wing.

New FL5 Civic Type R on TE37SL.

Spec R S15 Silvia with gold Advan AVS Model 6 wheels.

Team of FK8s and one Subaru STi. I believe this crew came from out of town and was awarded for “Best Road Crew of the Festival”. Voltex Type 5 wing and Advan GTs fitted on this Type R.

Lowered on TE37SLs.

Unsure of which company make the front bumper on this STi as I’ve never seen this one before. APR rear wing and Advan GTs also found on this Subaru.

FK8 on Advan GTs as well.

A Rallye Red FK8 to add some colour to the crew. This on sitting on 57CRs and with an APR rear wing.

Rally Evo X that took home “Mitsubishi of the Festival”. While the Evolution and STi heritage comes from rally racing, they’re not often modded that way anymore. I remember back in the early 2000s, you’d see every Subaru with rally armour, hella horns behind the front grille, and the pig sticker somewhere on the car. It’s really cool to see one today that is modified and (I believe) actually used for rally racing.

Bill’s S15 Silvia. The three spoke Advans are not a wheel you come across often.

Rocket Bunny FRS and Suzuki Carry.

Hyper Blue Varis Arising kitted Subaru STi - very nice.

John’s 4Runner looking pretty sweet. John went a bit trigger happy with the tire shine 😁. John’s 4Runner won “Toyota of the Festival”

JP’s NSX on Regamasters.

RSX also on Regamasters.

Garage 111’s Rocket Bunny FRS on TE37Vs.

Lifted Kia Sorento with a spare and traction boards on the roof. Would be interesting to see this go wheeling…

Bagged Mustang with fender flares.

Interesting to see these extension flares (that look to be universal) without any exposed hardware. Definitely looks much cleaner this way.

So Scare Social Club Silvia S15 that took home some the award for “Best Wheel Setup of the Festival”. Very deserved as this was easily the most unique set of wheels at the show. Great stance too.

Varis kitted Evo X with Voltex wing and TE37Vs.

Nissan 370Z with great spec TE37 Sagas. Looks to be face 4 with how concave the wheel design is.

🤔 ARE YOU SURE?

Very clean RSX on 57DRs. The owner of this car swapped out the RSX seats in favour for a set from a Civic EP3 which I thought was a bit odd - however they don’t look bad at all.

This 7 series BMW had great paint. Loved this colour and setup overall.

I can always appreciate an audio build - this one being done very well.

MR2 that I believe took home “Best Vinyl Wrap of the Festival”? I don’t remember exactly... There were so many awards that it was hard to keep track and I only kept track in my melted brain, so I do apologize if I misremembered any of the awards…

Advan RG-D2, Voltex Type 1S and a C-West front bumper round out the exterior of this S2000. Ryu and M Bison teaming up together looking for new challengers to join their arena… maybe.

Perfect example of an R34 Skyline GTR from Zee’s Garage…

Z-tuned spec’d in beautiful Midnight Purple paint.

You can expect perfection under the hood as well. I don’t know Nissans that well, so I couldn’t tell you exactly what’s going on here, but it wouldn’t take an expert to tell you that the details within the engine bay equally match the top quality of parts and care as the rest of the car.

Slammed RSX on chrome Cosmis XT006R wheels.

Flawed crew with some very clean cars all slammed with great fitment.

Kings Must Rise booth. I think this is the last event for KMR as Birdy made the decision to pursue another venture. This won’t be the last time we see Birdy at events, however.

Very clean stock body Zenki S14. Rare to these cars now in good shape. This one on some really nice spec OG TE37s.

Fake Hero’s booth. They had some merch for sale at their booth including some Tomica diecast cars as well as their own products.

Fan service imagery on this Nissan S13 - for the culture.

One of the events prepared by the organizers was the 2-step rev battle. Participants had registered to partake in a rev-off battle to see which car had the loudest 2-step. I personally didn’t have much interest myself, but it drew quite the crowd who all seemed to love it. Although it wasn’t for me, I appreciate the effort the crew went through to provide entertainment and offer something different.

This Subaru Impreza in line waiting for their turn in the 2-step battle.

Suzuki Alto Works also waiting in line…

DBZ livery with the Supplement King decals just makes sense.

DBZ Del Sol, revs to over 9000!! I mean, it should anyways. Sexy adult Bulma is also a choice - lol.

I don’t know this anime waifu. Sorry senpais.

Nissan Stagea 260RS, I think? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I spotted this CH-R in the spectators parking lot with an unique rear end that caught my eye. Looks to be lowered too on Rotiform Aerodisc wheels.

Zak’s Acura Vigor lowered on Bronze Gramlight 57CRs. The colour combo here between the paint and wheels give off a nice contrast to the overall vehicle. Worth noting is that the Vigor itself is quite rare now…

Stormtrooper Ford Focus ST that was awarded “USDM of the Festival”.

Voltex Nissan R35 GTR on Advan GTs. So good. I think this was awarded “Nissan of the Festival”.

Accord wagon with some very interesting wheels. I’ve never seen these before so I’m not sure what they are.

Genesis running a ton of camber.

Otafest was a show sponsor, hence all of the cars with anime liveries in appearance. Alongside Ryu and M Bison from earlier, there were also some other cosplayers that day.

That concludes my event coverage of the Matsuri Festival of Cars. I can say, looking back at these photos that the quality of builds are continuing to get better and better. A large majority of the cars on display at this show really do showcase the dedication and work that owners are putting into their vehicles. I think we can all agree that modifying cars is an expensive hobby and is a luxury that not everyone can afford. Seeing what people are doing with what they have makes for unique cars that reflect the owners own personality and character and I think that is the best part. It will always be cool to see a fully equipped catalogue car, but it’s also equally cool to see what someone made in their garage with whatever was available to them.

While it was a long day, it was an enjoyable one filled with great company, seeing old friends and meeting some new ones, and of course, cool cars. Like I’ve always believed, the cars come secondary to the friendships and connections that this community fosters. This event was a big win for the community and I know that the Kazoku and Tuner Decals crew will continue to only improve on an already winning formula. Look out for next year as I know the team has already started planning for 2024.

Thanks to the organizers, sponsors, vendors, literally everyone in attendance for making this event a successful one.
