Village Honda Show and Shine
Welcome to my coverage of the Second annual Show and Shine hosted by Village Honda. This is one of the only Honda only shows put on through-out the year and it seems to have gotten more traction in attendance and participation since their first show.
I’d like to think that we have a quite a decent Honda scene here in Calgary, so thank you to the team at Village Honda for promoting and facilitating a location where Honda lovers can get together and well, see and talk Hondas. It takes a lot of work to coordinate a show and to ensure that things go smoothly during show day, so I definitely appreciate the effort from the team at Village Honda for putting on this event.
I hope this event grows through-out the years and gains traction in our community cause it really is a great event with food, music, sponsors giving free swag, and even a petting zoo. As these events grow, the better these events become. While the turnout is still somewhat small, there were still many great Hondas that showed up.
Speedfactor lineup posted up right infront of the dealership.
Brandon’s DC5 with his newly acquired J’s Racing front bumper for this year.
Another angle of the J’s Racing bumper. From this view you can also see the Mugen hood, roll bar, Bride bucket for Brandon, and a Status bucket for his passenger.
Full profile of Brandon’s car.
Esoteric Collective’s FK8 with a Spoon bumper and I think what looks like a Racebred Components’ front splitter.
Rear end of Esoteric’s FK8.
Another angle of the front stance.
Arnold’s FK8 on some hover wheels and Honda Grom along with a Honda C70 motorbike. This was my first time seeing and learning about the C70. Always cool to see something of that vintage in minty shape.
A closer look at the C70 motorbike.
Showroom condition CRX.
Just perfect all around. Parked behind was also another minty CRX. If I remember correctly, it was an imported JDM RHD CRX.
Jason Hoang Championship White FK8 and Jason Divina’s Boost Blue Pearl FK8 both wearing Mugen all around.
The sun was incredible harsh this morning, which made it difficult for me to capture some details.
Mugen MF10s and Advan GTs on these FK8s.
Boost blue looks great in all angles of light.
Jason opted for the Varis hood on his FK8. Shown here is the large center vent to provide additional ventilation to help with lowering engine temperatures.
Tried to get a shot of Jason’s Advans.
Another FK8 in attendance. This one on Volk Racing CE28 Club Racer II Black Edition.
Danny’s boosted BB6 Prelude, still with the factory H22A. I’ve always wondered why this chassis never gained as much popularity as Integras or Civics - These are great looking cars in my opinion.
Good to see this car out since it’s been tucked away in the garage for the last few years as Danny worked on getting the turbo set up just right.
Alex’s freshly restored ITR. This went under an extensive restoration with Alex choosing to use only brand new OEM pieces. This extends to the hardware, trim pieces, mouldings, windshield, optional aero, Type R replacement sticker and so much more…
These wheels must also be brand new…
Jamie’s RHD Spoon built EK9 Civic Type R.
Super clean 2nd gen Prelude.
The interior of the Prelude was also very clean and in amazing condition. The owner had all the original documentation and brochures displayed on the dashboard as well. I especially like how the Momo steering wheel looked in here with the NSX Type S horn button. Pictured are also the optional Murano floor mats ;).
EM1 Civic wearing a Spoon Sports themed livery.
This funny looking Honda drew quite the crowd throughout the day…
That’s because it’s actually an Austin Mini with a K20 stuffed into the trunk - making it rear wheel drive as well… I’ve seen some newer gen Mini Coopers with B18C swaps, and even K20s as well, however most of those were still mounted in the front engine compartment and still utilizing the FWD configuration. The owner of this Aston Mini went a bit further and made this work as a RWD. I couldn’t imagine having to work on the engine - doesn’t look easy.
What also makes this one special is that it’s left hand drive, as these British cars were more often found in a right hand drive configuration. I think these would have had to been imported from Germany. I didn’t get a chance to speak with the owner, so I’m not sure of this cars specific history. Well executed build, nonetheless.
Aggressive carbon over-fenders to help widen the track of this Mini.
This K-swapped GE Fit rolled up to the side of the dealership parking lot. I tried to get better photos of it, but gave up after a few seconds when there were a bunch of people standing infront. It was a completely stock looking Fit, I don’t even remember if it had aftermarket wheels on it. Complete sleeper.
Yoseph showed up with his 8th Gen Civic Si sedan.
Kraftwerks supercharged too. The engine bay looking very clean.
9th gen Civic Si coupe with unique headlights. I think this may have been a custom retrofit.
Very clean 8th gen coupe on a set of well fitting Enkei RPF01s. Silver on silver is such a good combo. Simple, but definitely a great look. One of my favourite details on this is the extended line from the foglight grille sweeping upwards towards the headlight. I’ve never seen this done before, but I think it looks quite sharp. Cool visual mod to make it stand out a bit more from the others.
Turbocharged goodness. With the exterior looking rather unassuming, makes this a total sleeper. So awesome.
Inside the dealership was this Legit Honda NA2 NSX-R on display.
NA2 powerplant. For how rare and exciting this car is “supposed” to be - it didn’t inspire any special feelings to me… I can’t quite put my finger on why - possibly the colour combo which didn’t look great to me. Black mirror caps, black wheels, white headlight housing… it just didn’t seem to flow. I do feel like this deserved more appreciation than I was giving it. Maybe it’s just not for me.
Headed back outside and some more group shots.
Honda scooter with the 90s Jazz cup design - lol.
The crowd gathering around for end of show announcements and awards. Peep the full red interior in this ITR - special as this was only offered in Canada spec ITRs.
And that’s a wrap for the Village Honda 2nd Annual Show and Shine. Thanks to the team over at Village Honda and also to all of the participants who made this a fun morning and afternoon. Hoping this event gets larger with time. I know there are many more Hondas lurking in Calgary and with not many Honda-specific meet ups happening throughout the summer, this is a great event that deserves more attention.
Hope to see more cool Hondas in the upcoming years here.
